Visit ancient stone citadel of Ta Kon
In recent years, the mountainous
district of Vinh Thanh (Binh Dinh province) has become known as an
attractive tourist destination. The pristine beauty of the mountains and
forests combined with the unique cultural space of the indigenous people
creates a unique charm for this land.
The mountainous district of Vinh Thanh, located in Quy Nhon City (Binh Dinh
Province), is blessed with majestic mountains and forests and many beautiful
landscapes. In addition, the unique traditional culture of the Bana K'riêm
community offers unique experiences to visitors.
According to many tourists, the first impression when coming to Vinh Thanh
land is the wild beauty of the mountains and forests, the majestic
landscapes. When mentioning the beauty of Vinh Thanh mountains and forests,
tourists pay special attention to the million-year-old Ta Kon ancient stone
citadel in the middle of Vinh Son old forest.
The straight stacked stone pillars, piercing the blue sky, are a masterpiece
that nature has bestowed upon this land. According to the scientific records
used as the basis for ranking the Ta Kon citadel relic by the Binh Dinh
Provincial Museum, Ta Kon citadel is a range of rocky mountains formed by
the Quaternary volcanic eruption millions of years ago. The process of the
earth's surface rising has created the stone pillars with the shape they
have now.
Ta Kon stone citadel is formed from rectangular and hexagonal stone columns
stacked tightly on top of each other, about 500m long and 30-40m high. This
place used to be the base of the Tay Son insurgents. During the modern
historical period, during the years of war against France and the US, the Ta
Kon citadel area used to be the rear base of guerrillas and the main force
of Vinh Thanh district until the country's reunification in 1975.
Up to December 25, 2013, Ta Kon citadel was ranked as a historical relic and
scenic spot by the People's Committee of Binh Dinh province.
More than a decade ago, exploring Ta Kon was an experience for independent
travelers who loved adventure. Approaching the ancient citadel required a
lot of effort and perseverance. Now, Ta Kon is closer and friendlier thanks
to a 3.3km long, 2m wide concrete road constructed by the Binh Dinh
Agricultural and Rural Development Project Management Board in 2022.
The winding road through the forest is managed and exploited by the Vinh
Thanh Forest Protection Management Board. From the main road connecting Vinh
Thanh district with Vinh Son, to turn to Ta Kon, visitors must pass through
the forestry agency's barrier.
Next to Ta Kon, the majestic Lo Pin waterfall was born from lava flows,
weaving a misty curtain of water, pouring down from a height of hundreds of
meters. Standing next to the waterfall, tourists will feel like they are
lost in paradise.
Right in Vinh Son commune, not far from Ta Kon, is the national relic Nguyen
Hue Orange Garden (ranked on January 16, 1995). Going down National Highway
19, there are Phat Luong mountain, Ong Nhac mountain, Ong Binh mountain.
Going up to Kbang (Gia Lai), visitors will see Co Hau field, the place to
subdue the wild horses of Hon Cong...
