+ Beautiful !
We deliberated for ages over where to stay in Hoi An, at the time of booking there were mixed reviews about a few of the hotels. In the end we plumped for Palm Gardens and we were really pleased.
The hotel had the most beautiful gardens with lotus ponds and was right on the beach. It was lovely sitting out in the evening if you wanted peace and quiet.
The room was spacious, clean and had a balcony with sea view. Unlike other reviews we had no problems with noise from adjacent rooms at all.
We ate 1 night and 1 lunch in Calibri pool bar, we also ate in the main restaurant 1 night which had a massive menu, we had some asian food and it was very good. Yes it was a little more expensive than in town but not ridiculous.
We went in early September and it was a quiet time as the number of tourist visas was restricted due to public holidays. This suited us as it meant we had the pool virtually to ourselves!
The hotel is close enough to Hoi An with the benefit of the lovely beach location.
+ A beautiful holiday within a holiday in Hoi An !
We stayed at Palm Gardens for five nights . The grounds are immaculate with stunning flowers and the pool is huge.. It was a great place to come back to after a day of sight seeing and shopping in Hoi An. We hired bikes from the hotel to ride into Hoi An which was a fantastic way to get amongst the locals. Highly recommended, it takes about 15 mins. Alternatively there is a free shuttle bus or cabs are super cheap too, around $5 US. The breakfast buffet is really lovely but unfortunately the hotel's lunch and dinner options are really limited and there are far better and cheaper places to eat in town. Our room was a superior ocean view and it was spacious and very clean and comfortable.
A few recommendations for places to eat ...
"Secret Garden" it's off Le Loi street, down a little laneway but worth finding.
"Cargo" - overlooks the river with a great selection of Vietnamese food or french if you just feel like a nice sandwich
"Morning Glory" yummy Vietnamese
Also you must do the Red Bridge Cooking class, it was pretty much our favourite day, lots of fun!
We found a great tailor too and this can be stressful as there are so many to choose from and they can be super pushy. It's called Mr Xe.. prices are really good and he is an absolute perfectionist and won't let you leave the shop unless both you and he are happy.. quick turnaround too.. if he's not there, ask one of the girls if he can come and fit you.
We came across a bit of a scam when we arrived at the airport and got a cab to our hotel. On the way the driver stopped and picked up his 'friend' who said she needed to direct him to our hotel but she turned around and gave us a speech about her family's tailor shop called HUGO's and basically it was all just a sales pitch. She was waiting for us that afternoon and the next day too, and kept hassling us as we were riding around town to come into her shop. Our advice would be to be firm early and refuse to let anyone else get in the cab, it's a pretty small town so all drivers know where most hotels are..
+ The best one in Hoi An !
Lovely rooms which were very clean. The beach was very nice but we only swam in the pool.. The food was tasteful and the breakfast buffet was filling and with so many choices you just kept going back and back until you were so full.
If you want to save money on food or laundry - or just fancy getting away from the resort for a while without travelling into town, there are plenty of places offering services just a short walk away. Some of the restaurants on the nearby public beach serve excellent seafood, for example
Our trip was really enjoyable except a small thing made me feel so upset that the communication with Front desk at night time was very disappointed. I called several times to ask for some diarrhea medicine but nobody answered and when they picked up the phone they did not understand what I needed. They slept well when I appeared at Front desk.
+ A great sense of hospitality !
We are loving our second time here at Palm Garden and we wish much success to this marvelous resort. What a green environment in a tropical landscape and a clean private beach! Our bungalow beachfront is just lovely. We love the attention to details and the little things that make our stay here very special and memorable. The local accent is so charming even if it is not a perfet English. The resort's website does not reflect the real setting and atmosphere of this little paradise on earth. Seeing is believing. We will definitely come back again.
+ Nice grounds shame about the service !
Stayed here for 4 nights in a garden view bungalow. On entry the room looked very nice with the open air bathroom and nice view of the pool. However the bath leaked out all over the floor nearly as fast as we put water in.
My first impressions of the staff were that they realy could not be bothered with it all, very fake smiles and very in attentive. This was more and more evident as we continued our stay.
The beds are the most uncomfortable and hardest I have ever slept on, the tiled floor would nearly be softer, but when i mentioned this to the guest relations all I got in return was a blank stare.
My wife, who is a larger lady, wore a top over her bathing costume for some modesty was told very rudely and abruptly by the life guard she was to remove clothing from the pool, both embarasing and demening, with no regard to her feelings.
Would I stay here again, never. Would I recomend it to a friend, Not on your life, 5 star , Not even close.
